This video describes an overall view of the research at Hirose Laboratory. For long, snake-shaped robots have been studied, designed and developed in the lab. From snake locomotion studies, ground terrain and amphibious robots have been built and tested. Snake robots designed for rescue operations (e.g. Souryu I to V) are presented, with real deployment activities in emergency situations, like Niigata Earthquake. Other rescue devices have been engineered, like parallelogram linkage mechanisms and multi-joint arms, which allow for weight compensation in parts-handling tasks.
